Hi, I’m Ingrid and I’m new at FutureGov

Tap, tap, tap. Is this thing on? Can you hear me at the back? OK – here goes. My first post at FutureGov. Exciting!

Some of you may already know me. I’ve been working with local government for a long time – inside a council, regulating councils and for the last eight years supporting council improvement at Local Government Improvement and Development (formerly the IDeA).  My background is in better governance, performance management and improvement in councils and partnerships.

For the past several years, I’ve been doing a lot with digital. I’ve been using it to support better governance and improved performance management. And as I used social media and worked with open data more, the more opportunities I could see for local public services.   I’ve been blogging about it. Sharing examples. Taking the Local by Social events around the country. Helping practitioners to share information about social media and open data.  I know the future is digital.

But it’s not all digital. Social technologies and more easily accessible data are only useful if they’re used to help make better connections, drive innovation, engage people in designing and delivering better and more efficient services or enhance democracy. Digital’s only useful if it brings government closer to the people who pay for it and the people who need it.

That’s why from July I’m going to be working with FutureGov. I want to work with councils and others who want to put the principles of openness and engagement into practice. I want to help local public services and their partners take advantage of technology to make things better.

And not just a little better. Radically better.

So drop me a line if you want to talk about how we might do that together. Email me on ingrid@wearefuturegov.com or talk to me on twitter @ingridk

  • Just wanted to wish you the very best of luck in this new role! You’ve done some amazing work with local government so far, and instilled the belief that things can be better if we use the right tools for the job.

I especially like the way you start with problems and find solutions rather than the other way around!

The harder you work, the luckier you get; so you will no doubt bring a lot of luck to FutureGov!

  • Ingrid, I cannot think of anyone better suited! Well done you. Give ‘em hell! Very pleased for you.

  • You’re in a good place Ingrid. Ideas abound and good people surround – llok forward to hearing more from you and the futuregov crowd

  • Hi Ingrid

Congratulations on your new role. Nottingham City Council has developed an innovative new website that hopes to save the public sector £M’s each year. Please take a look at http://www.portfoliocreative.org We would welcome any support Future Gov can offer in helping us to promote the site.

    All the best

  • Hi Ingrid,
Congratulations Ingrid and thanks for your persistent blogging of good ideas! Of course we have used some and look forward to pinching more of your good ideas now you are at FutureGov.
    All the best
    Susan

  • I am so glad that you are working within FutureGov!! For over 6 years I have been trying to promote the exceptional opportunities that exist to self broadcast all manner of local issues that concern local interest groups and citizens to give our citizens a voice! It has been slow progress, however a number of schools, multi faith and youth groups are taking up the challenge. I expect that before long they will be producing content that will challenge and raise questions on the way that we govern and administer.

  • Best wishes Ingrid – and on a personal note it was great to finally get to met and chat face-to-face at the Sunderland event – as well as allowing me the opportunity to network as we were making a positive contribution to the work that you’ve been leading on for what to you must seem like “forever”!

  • Well done Ingrid! You’ve done so many good things at IDeA/LGID over the last few years, so I know you’ve got loads to offer FutureGov and the wider world. Best luck with it.

    Adrian
