This weekend the Global Service Jam is back.
Global Service Jam is a two day event that runs concurrently in cities across the globe. Each city competes against one another (in the nicest possible way) to design and deliver the most innovative, creative and interesting solutions to a challenge they are set. It’s a fast paced, creative and collaborative weekend where you make great stuff and meet cool people.
We have decided to sponsor the London leg of Global Service Jam for the second year running.
As a company that develops our own services and products, as well as running our own events, we know how bloody hard it is to do, but also how darn fun it can be as well. We support global service jam in particular because:
It brings people together to create new things
There is nothing better than meeting cool people and making things.
A practical and hands on approach which we think is right
Service design gets a bit of a kicking by some people. We think this is because the emphasis is too often in the methods and process, rather than the outcomes. It also often practiced in a way that is removed from the context, other disciplines and activities. Taking a more practical, hands on approach focused on iteration and prototyping is important – that’s how we roll and that’s what we like.
Global Service Jam is about just cracking on, trying things out, having some fun and using our brains. Just getting on and doing things.
We will be along to the London event and if you are interested in the work we do at FutureGov and want to know more you can reach me on joe [at] wearefuturegov [dot] com.
Bring on the weekend!

Thanks for blogging, and thanks for supporting the Jam! We like your description of the event (though we’re not a competition, there is a friendly competitive spirit), and we certainly agree on the importance of “doing”.
Cheers,
Adam, CoInitiator
Stumble across your site after reading about some of your events that look really interesting, hope to tag along to one of your events soon. I also like the way your company champions new tech innovations for local government in the UK, which I think a lot of work can be done to deliver a better and cheaper* service compared to the current approaches.
