Carlisle: Super Fast City

Carlisle City Council are making the most out of being located in a Government Super Fast Broadband pilot area (Cumbria) by investing in developing their own digital economy. As part of this they, along with Carlisle College and the Carlisle Economic Partnership, are running “Carlisle: Super Fast City”, a digital inclusion conference on 30th May 2012, bringing together local partners and businesses to work on improving connectivity, technological innovation and digital services across Carlisle.

Dominic from FutureGov, and the local MP, John Stevenson, will be addressing the conference and there will be four workshops on issues ranging from using digital technology to improve public services to the engaging local communities in the Connecting Cumbria Broadband Project.

I will also be facilitating a session to set the scope for a Hack Lab event that FutureGov will be running in Carlisle after the conference about using digital technology to improve employment opportunities for young people. The Hack Lab will build upon the success of and run in a similar style to the Interactivism: Young People Hack Weekend that FutureGov delivered for Google earlier this year.

If you are interested in attending the conference, please sign up on the event page here.
