Councillor Camp is coming!
Councillor Camp will be a free day-long event held on Saturday 12th January at Facebook’s new Central London headquarters (fancy huh?).
The idea of holding an event around digital and social stuff with local politicians has been bounced around here at FutureGov HQ many times in recent years. And now, coming in January 2013, we’re finally just getting on and doing it – due in no small part to the support of our partners (those logos up top). The day will be an opportunity for local politicians to share how they’re using social and digital media to engage, campaign and change the way services are delivered to their residents.
The event will be roughly split in two, with the first half including a keynote speaker as well as panels and rapid-fire presentations – ranging from the industry experience of big-name companies like Facebook, through to the practical on-the-ground experience of politicians already succeeding with digital and social media. The second half of the event will be openspace – in other words – what the people there want to talk about. We love openspace stuff at FutureGov and think it’s really important to give people to the chance to share their own experience and talk about the big issues.
Councillor Camp is intended for politicians of all digital persuasions, from the long-time expert to the newly digital curious. Whatever your digital knowhow, there’s always more to learn, so running alongside the main sessions will be the Learning Zone. Open all day, the Learning Zone will be an informal space for you to drop in and get some practical help and advice – perhaps finding out how to upload a YouTube video straight from your phone, start your own blog or pick up some hints and tips on Facebook straight from the horse’s mouth.
So, if you’re a councillor and you love all things digital – or think it’s time you learned some new tricks of the trade, head on over to councillorcamp.com and sign up now – be quick though, we reckon the tickets will go pretty quickly…
Oh and one last thing – if you’ve got a councillor friend who you reckon might wanna get involved, click here to tell ‘em all about it.
Looking forward to a digital day.
Hi
How did you publicise this to Councillors? Found out about this today by accident. Seems a bit secret.
Kind regards
Cllr. Merlin Milner
Lewes Town Council
Hi Merlin,
Thanks for your comment.
Quite the contrary in fact – we tried to publicise Councillor Camp as widely as possible, and were supported in this by a number of our event partners – such as the LGiU who placed a full page advert in their C’llr magazine. The last thing we would want is for something to seem in any way ‘secret’.
I’m sorry you didn’t find out about this until just now, but if you join our mailing list then you’ll be sure to find out about more events in the future.
Jon.
