Sally Herbert is the Business Management Partner at Newcastle City Council.
FutureGov is currently working with Newcastle City Council (NCC) to support the digital transformation of their planning service. This is in response to the government’s recent Planning White Paper. Whilst details of the changes to the planning system won’t become clear until it makes its way into law, the direction of travel is clear and will lead to changes in the ways of working and use of technology for all local authorities.
Newcastle is keen to engage widely and be open about the work we’re doing together. They’ve made the Show and Tells open so anyone with an interest can follow the progress and participate. We’re keen to document the work as it progresses.
Our next Show and Tell is this Friday 5 March at 1 pm.
After each sprint, we’ll publish ‘sprint notes’ sharing insight into what we’ve been up to and what we’re planning. These will also include a link to the most recent Show and Tell so you can catch up on what’s been happening in more detail.
Project background
Our project with Newcastle is an eight-week discovery to understand the user needs for staff, stakeholders and users to inform how the council can respond to the white paper and improve its service to users.
Here’s a high-level plan for the project:
