Back in September, we joined thousands of young people, businesses and local authorities in declaring a climate and ecological emergency, calling for a collective response to addressing the climate crisis.
While we face an immediate crisis of responding to a health pandemic, supporting the organisations we work with across government and the health and third sectors, we’re also continuing to keep the longer-term in focus. The changes we’re all experiencing are starting to point to how we will need to think about the impact of future changes to our lives and work in response to the climate era.
It’s more important than ever that we share what we’re learning, connecting work across our organisations and the sector.
Learning to respond in the climate era
Over the past few months, we’ve been running an internal discovery, exploring the ways our organisation can reduce its environmental impact. By continuing to use ourselves as an experiment of what a 21st-century organisation looks like, exploring new ways of working, methods and approaches in our projects and practices, we’re learning about how we can change and build a model for the kind of company we want to see in the world.
We want to be transparent about what we’re doing, sharing what works and more importantly, what doesn’t. Through a new series of climate week notes from the team, we’ll share what we’re hearing, challenges we’ve faced and lessons learned as we bring climate into more conversations and work with our partners and clients.
In these regular updates, you’ll hear from practice and team leads at FutureGov who are exploring how we design products, services and organisations in the climate era. You’ll also hear from our staff-owned, GRETA group (read: the Group to React to the Emergency that Threatens us All!). The group, selected through a “civic lottery” to be widely representative of our organisation, is looking at the changes we can make internally.
